Tummy Tuck
For many women, no amount of dieting and exercise can address excess fat or skin in the tummy and waistline area. Un-affectionately known as the “spare tyre”, or “love handles”, the loose skin, fat deposits and lower tummy bulges are often developed after childbirth or weight loss. This excess skin and fat can cause a range of issues for some individuals, both physically and psychologically.
Abdominoplasty surgery has the ability to alleviate these issues and achieve the stomach and waistline that you’ve always wanted. The main goals of an abdominoplasty is the removal of excess skin and fat, improving your abdominal muscle tone and the overall appearance of the middle area.
Gold Coast plastic surgeon, Dr Dilip Gahankari is a highly experienced abdominoplasty surgeon and will determine the procedure that suits your personal circumstances and offers you the best possible results.
Is this procedure for me?
An abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is the surgical removal of excess skin and fat from the abdomen, and the repositioning of the abdomen muscles into a tighter, firmer formation.
The tummy tuck procedure involves an incision at the lower abdomen, and possibly a second incision at the navel. Liposculpture may be used to contour the tummy and part of the hip area, and to reduce skin damage and limit the length of the scar.
All of the above details will be discussed and explained further during your initial free consultation with Dr Dilip Gahankari on the Gold Coast.
Pre and Post-Op Care
Procedures vary from patient to patient, and the extent of the surgery will impact the recovery time. Normal activities can typically be resumed within two weeks, although a pressure garment must be worn for some weeks to support the abdomen as the muscles repair and the swelling and bruising subside. Generally speaking after three weeks patients can return to work and light exercises such as walking. In most cases by six weeks after surgery, patients are able to re-engage in normal everyday activities, however it is still advised that you avoid anything strenuous that puts pressure on the abdominal wall.
It is important to keep in mind that all patients and their surgery recoveries are different, and given everyone’s unique circumstances, Dr Gahankari will discuss your surgical options and recovery times during your initial, free consultation to give you a clearer idea as to how long your recovery journey will take.
What Results Can I Expect?
This surgery is undertaken to result in a flatter, firmer and more contoured stomach and a well-defined waistline. It may take up to a year for your body to completely adapt to the new abdominal configuration, however, when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise, the striking results of the tummy tuck surgery will be long lasting.
