Dr. Dilip Gahankari
The decision to undergo any surgical procedure is not one to be taken lightly.
Gold Coast plastic surgeon Dr. Dilip Gahankari (FRACS, RACS) has the skill, experience and proven record to ensure you are in experienced and capable hands.
Once you have decided to undergo surgery, we ensure you are comfortable and have a comprehensive understanding of the procedure you are about to undertake. Importantly, you will also have the full support of Dr. Gahankari and his team prior to, and after your surgery.
When choosing a plastic surgeon, it is essential to gain information about the following:
It is important you ensure your surgeon is a fully qualified Plastic Surgeon. Members of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons are Fellows of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), both qualifications are fully accredited by the Australian Medical Council, the only body authorised by the Commonwealth Government to certify all medical training.
Only genuine plastic surgeons in Australia are members of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). You may contact the society to gather more information regarding the surgeon you wish to consult. Please visit www.plasticsurgery.org.au or call their Information Hotline: 1300 367 446
It may be helpful to ask you the surgeon are considering the following questions: How long has the surgeon been performing the particular procedure you are considering? How many has he or she performed? How often does he or she perform the procedure? Have any complications occurred in the past? You may also request photographic examples of the surgeon’s own work (both pre and post-operative).
Ideally, you should feel comfortable with the surgeon and be satisfied that you have been provided with a complete and balanced explanation of the procedure you have enquired about, along with a detailed explanation of potential complications and side effects. At the end of the consultation you should feel confident in your surgeon.
Make sure your surgeon offers and organises appropriate care for you after your procedure. Be sure to ask any questions you have regarding aftercare. These may include: What should you do if you have questions or concerns after your procedure? What if there is a problem after your procedure? Will you be able to contact the surgeon or his staff readily? How many times will the surgeon see you after surgery? Are your follow-up visits included in your surgical fee?
A reputation can be vetted through word of mouth (from friends and associates) or from your General Practitioner. Your GP will usually be aware of the reputation of practicing surgeons in your area.
Many healthcare providers and even beauty practitioners are now performing some cosmetic procedures, but that does not mean they are all qualified to do so. ASPS member surgeons are comprehensively trained in plastic surgery which encompasses both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.
