Laser Tattoo Removal
The ultimate goal of any tattoo removal treatment is to remove the tattoo. Overall, laser tattoo removal is the least invasive and most effective method of removing a tattoo. Over the years there have been a variety of laser tattoo removal treatments, with a variety of results. PicoSure is the world’s first aesthetic picosecond laser.
This laser tattoo removal technology delivers ultra-short pulse bursts of energy to the skin in trillionths of a second. Traditional nanosecond lasers predominately rely on photo thermal action, delivering heat to the pigment and surrounding tissue. PicoSure uses PressureWave Technology to shatter the ink directly, breaking it into tiny particles that are eliminated by the body.
Once you have made the decision to undertake laser tattoo removal treatment, what happens next?
During your initial complimentary consultation our highly trained Registered Nurse will fully explain the process and answer any questions you may have regarding the tattoo removal procedure. They will discuss your medical history to make sure that laser tattoo removal is the right method for you. The assessment should take about 20 minutes.
Some medical conditions are associated with a greater risk of complications with laser tattoo removal treatment, as are some medications, so we need to know about any current conditions. This information enables us to ensure your treatment is safe and effective. We will also discuss any possible side effects of your tattoo removal procedure to make sure you are fully informed of any treatment risks.
Our attention then turns to your tattoo and gathering detailed information about where and when it was done, by whom and what type of inks were used. We also need to know if you experienced any skin reactions when the work was first done.
The number of tattoo removal treatments needed will vary according to the size of the tattoo, the depth of the ink and whether complete removal or fading is required. The number of sessions, pain relief options and cost of treatments will be discussed during this initial assessment.
If you are happy to proceed with the laser tattoo removal treatment we will then test several small sections of your tattoo to assess how it will react to the laser. Different colours may require the use of different lasers. Each tattoo removal session will last around 15-20 minutes, but the laser treatment itself is very fast. A break of 6 to 10-weeks will be required between sessions. After each treatment, the skin will feel a little like it’s been sunburnt, but this feeling will soon subside over the following few days.
After your laser tattoo removal treatment, it is important to stay out of the sun for the first few days as sun exposure can lead to complications or side effects. Your nurse will provide you with a list of ‘dos’ and ‘dont’s’ and advise you about common side effects and when to get in touch with us if you have any concerns.
